Danielle A. (she/her)
Master of Voice Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College at Rider University (in progress)
Teacher Certification in the Alexander Technique, The Dimon Institute
Senior Voice Instructor
Danielle is a big nerd who loves all things voice and singing. She is an expert in musical theater and pop/rock sounds and has worked with Oscar- and Tony-nominated actors, singer/songwriters who want to develop their stage persona, and beginners who simply want to rock the karaoke night or get more comfortable in their own skin (and larynx!). Danielle is caring, patient, and supportive of your path as a voice-user and music maker, whatever that may be!
Danielle works with singers and speakers at The Voice Lab, including gender-affirming voice care.
How do you describe your lessons?
My lessons are your safe space for joy-making, creative expression, education, and self-exploration. Together, we will expand your range and try on new sounds, then apply those sounds to the medium that matters to you, whether that is speech or song work. I often integrate mindfulness and awareness work drawn from the Alexander Technique as part of the practice.
How do you practice?
I often begin with an awareness meditation which gets me to the right state of mind and body for practice.
What do you do with a new student at their first lesson?
The most important thing I can do in a first lesson is listen. I want to understand what makes you tick, what you hope to achieve with your voice, and how I can best help you catch those dreams. We’ll play around a bit with making sounds, talk about the lesson process and answer any questions you have. The first lesson should feel like a conversation and an opportunity for us to get to know each other, then on session 2, we can really dive in!
What are your favorite artists/genres/occasions to sing?
I love the intersection between the storytelling of musical theater, and the interpretative techniques that play into jazz. Blending the two genres also opens the door for more experimentation with sound, style, and text connection. My favorite artists to sing are Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, The Bengsons, Heather Christian, Blondie, and Nirvana. I will also sing along to every musical soundtrack.. can’t help it.
